CANDIDATE FOR Christchurch East By-Election
I am a 47 year old builder who has been self-employed for 23 years, and I have worked with EQC, EQR, and insurance companies. I have seen a lot of the system failures and would relish the opportunity to make the system fairer, quicker, and more customer focussed, because I enjoy helping people achieve their goals.
Why on earth would you vote for anyone else when a vote for Leighton would tick so many boxes for you?

LEIGHTON’S APPROACH
My approach is to work alongside existing local community and business groups, to hear your ideas and grasp your vision for the future of our community.
I recently took a building team to Cambodia to work with a displaced people group. It became very evident that too often outsiders enter a community and tell the community what they need, rather than listen to find out what they really need.
Those that live, work, and play in the East, are the best ones to decide their community’s future, and my role would be to support and implement their designs.
The East has an abundance of reasons to live there;

Our serene forest
Great proximity to town
Let’s enhance and revitalise this magnificent suburb together.

I WAS HERE
After the September Earthquakes, my team and I were in the East, carrying out repairs, digging long drops, and securing people’s houses.
My wife co-ordinated a laundry team with ladies from Canterbury, washing and drying clothes to be delivered back to those without power and water.
My son and daughter were involved with the Rangiora Express, cooking and delivering meals to the East.

WE BELIEVE
We believe that the wisdom of 3 million Kiwi voters is greater than 121 politicians in Wellington. We support binding referenda, where the Government must follow citizens’ directives when 67% of votes cast, support the proposal.
Let’s keep our assets.
Let’s develop our potential.
Let’s lead, not follow.
Less Government interference.
More personal responsibility.
